Safe Tanning - Some things you need to know

Indoor Tanning Safety Tips

Redlands Beach Tanning's indoor tanning facility offers a year round, convenient, controlled environment for people of all types who want to enjoy the look and feel of a tan body. We want you to understand the tanning process so you can know what to expect from your visit to our salon.

Ultraviolet rays are harmful to your eyes. Federally approved protective eyewear must be worn to block out the UVA and UVB light. The necessity of wearing protective eyewear cannot be stressed enough. If you are taking any medications, please check with your physician and tell us before you tan in any sunbed or use our UV free tanning solutions. Some drugs are photosensitive and should not be mixed with any type of UV light, and you need to ensure that you have no skin allergies that would affect your tanning visit.

Your lips have no melanin and will never develop a tan. However, UV light from the sun or the sunbed can cause your lips to dry out. Always keep your lips moist with lip balm before tanning. The whole trick with using a self-tanner is to exfoliate your skin the night before. By getting rid of old dead skin and smoothing the rough areas on your knees and elbows, you will achieve a much more even tan. The skin on your knees and elbows is thicker than it is on other parts of your body, so it's a good idea to moisturize these areas twice as much as other parts of your body before you apply the self-tanner. By moisturizing these "problem" areas, you will ensure that your skin will be super smooth, so that when you do apply the self tanner, it will go on evenly and smoothly.

To ensure that all your skin gets covered, use a sponge and work in circular motions... plus, make sure you keep your fingers closed. This will prevent any streaking from occurring!

It is important to understand that we will limit your exposure and number of visits to maximize results and avoid over-exposure - however we can't do that without full diclosure from our customers so tell us everything on your first visit, and let our staff help you learn more about safe tanning.

Safe Outdoor Tanning - Is it Possible?

Avoid any unnecessary sun exposure. Minimize sunning between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. when UVB rays are most damaging. Remember, UVA rays are present during all daylight hours. Thirty minutes before going outdoors, liberally apply an even coat of broad-spectrum sunscreen. Reapply frequently to ensure constant coverage. When your protected sunning time is up, go indoors. Reapplying more sunscreen will NOT extend your protected sunning time.

Why Indoor Tanning?

With all the variables resulting from outdoor exposure and the increased and uncontrolled in many cases actual exposure - it's no wonder millions of Americans now enjoy a potentially safer and more predictable indoor tanning experience offered by "state of the art" tanning salons - Redland's Beach offers you a variety of tanning solutions depending on your skin, tanning desires, and budget.
